Regenerative medicine is the process of replacing or regenerating human cells, tissues or organs to restore or establish normal function. The concept is that damaged tissue can be restored by using the body\u2019s own healing mechanism to promote repair.<\/p>\n<p>This new branch of medicine may change the course of chronic diseases and standard clinical therapies. However, with any new therapies, this must be approached cautiously and with scientific data to support the treatment. This session will discuss the current in-clinic applications of stem cell therapies in degenerative diseases and the challenges of bringing these products to patients.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>About the Speaker<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Ms. Comella has over 15 years\u2019 in regenerative medicine.\u00a0She was recently named number 24 according to Terrapin\u2019s list of the Top 50 Global Stem Cell Influencers.\u00a0Ms. Comella has pioneered a variety of stem cell therapies including cord blood derived cells, bone marrow cells, muscle cells and adipose cells for use in many different applications.\u00a0She has developed a wide range of regenerative products and techniques that have been successfully implemented into the clinic.\u00a0She also led the team that gained the first ever FDA approval for clinical trials using a combined cell and gene therapy product.\u00a0Ms. Comella is currently serving as the Chief Scientific Officer and board member.\u00a0 She was co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Stemlogix, LLC for veterinary medicine. Previously, she worked as a research engineer for Osiris Therapeutics developing stem cell therapies for osteoarthritis.
